Austin, Texas – Citing the latest Current Employment Statistics (CES) report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) today highlighted new employment figures showing a reduction in upstream employment in Texas in the month of March. According to TIPRO’s analysis, direct Texas upstream employment for March totaled 204,400, a decrease of 700 industry positions from February employment numbers, subject to revisions. This represented a decline of 900 jobs in the services sector and increase of 200 jobs in oil and gas extraction.
Texas Upstream Employment Continues to Rise
Austin, Texas – Citing the latest Current Employment Statistics (CES) report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) today highlighted new employment figures showing an increase in upstream employment in Texas in the month of February. According to TIPRO’s analysis, direct Texas upstream employment for February totaled 205,400, an increase of 1,900 industry positions from January employment numbers, subject to revisions. This represented an increase of 2,500 jobs in the services sector and decline of 600 jobs in oil and gas extraction.
Texas Upstream Employment Sees Significant Increase in January
Austin, Texas – Citing the latest Current Employment Statistics (CES) report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) today highlighted new employment figures showing an increase in upstream employment in Texas in the month of January. According to TIPRO’s analysis, direct Texas upstream employment for January totaled 203,400 an increase of 2,500 industry positions from December employment numbers, subject to revisions. This represented an increase of 1,600 jobs in Oil and Gas Extraction and 900 jobs in the Services sector.

The Texas upstream employment data represents a decrease of 900 jobs in oil and gas extraction and an increase of 1,700 positions in the services sector last month.
TIPRO Statement on Public Utility Commission Approval of Reliability Plan for the Permian Basin Region
Austin, Texas – This week, the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) approved staff to develop a final order to implement the Permian Basin Reliability Plan to address energy reliability concerns in the largest oil and natural gas producing basin in the nation. Following the approval of the final order, likely to occur at an upcoming meeting in October, applicable transmission service providers will file applications to initiate construction on new facilities and upgrades that will ensure availability and reliability of electricity in the Permian region. “House Bill 5066 was a top priority supported by TIPRO during the 88th Texas Legislative Session, which provided for the prioritization of the development of transmission projects for the Permian Basin,” said Ed Longanecker, president of TIPRO. “With load demand for the oil and natural gas industry already unmet and expected to increase significantly over the next decade, this plan will provide critical investment in transmission, related infrastructure, and capacity. We applaud the PUC for advancing this important effort to address insufficient transmission access in the Permian Basin and to support continued growth in our industry and state from an economic and energy security perspective,” concluded Longanecker.

TIPRO Statement on Senator Ted Cruz Congressional Review Act Resolution – Dunes Sagebrush Lizard
Austin, Texas – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has introduced a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to overturn the listing of the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard as an endangered species. The following statement can be attributed to Ed Longanecker, president of the Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO): “For too long, environmental activists have been in the driver’s seat, dictating the administration must disrupt robust oil and gas operations despite the industry’s track record of collaborative and successful conservation efforts. The Dunes Sagebrush Lizard’s listing on the endangered list risks hindering critical energy development in the Permian Basin and derailing ongoing conservation work implemented by the Texas Conservation Plan (TCP) that has proven effective in protecting the lizard’s habitat over the last decade. The filing has little to do with protecting the lizard’s habitat and is instead one of several ongoing efforts to inhibit oil and gas production. TIPRO and our members applaud Senator Cruz for taking action via his CRA resolution to overturn the listing of the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard as an endangered species and we encourage all federal policymakers to support this effort.”

Austin, Texas – Citing the latest Current Employment Statistics (CES) report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) today highlighted new employment figures showing a decline in upstream employment for the month of May 2024. Oil and gas extraction jobs in Texas increased by 400 last month, while support activities fell by 2,400.
